Wimbledon might not be her favorite Grand Slam and grass court might not be her favorite surface, but Roberta Vinci is doing quite well so far and will surely try to go as far as possible now once she entered the stage of last 16. She didn’t play well at grass at the beginning of her career, neither on any other faster surfaces, but she improved a lot in last three years.
Improvement came in 2011 season, when she won the Hertogenbosch tournament also reaching the third round in Wimbledon exiting to Kvitova. Last year she had decent results at grass, reaching the quarterfinals of Birmingham and Hertogenbosch and reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon where she lost to Paszek. This year, she is playing more than well being currently at her career highest eleventh position in the World. She improved on faster surfaces and made some great results such as semifinals of Dubai and quarterfinals of Miami in Spring, as well as winning clay court tournament in Katowice. At Wimbledon, she won over Scheepers in the first round losing only three games, then struggled in second against Cepelova winning her 9-7 in the third set and finally, won over Dominika Cibulkova in third round 6-1, 6-4.

Na Li, on the other side, is far away from her best form, but still continues making more than solid results. Her results at hard at the start of the season were great, getting the title in China in the first week of the season, but also reaching the finals at Australian Open same month when she lost to Azarenka in three sets after winning the first.
The Chinese then took a long break and returned back to tennis two months later reaching the quarter finals of Miami when she lost to Serena Williams. Finally, clay court season started well for her coming to the finals of Stuttgart where she lost to Sharapova, but the rest of the tournaments went terrible for the Chinese. Here she has won over Krajicek in easy first round, then struggled in three sets against Halep and Zakopalova, winning the second one 8-6 in third.
Vinci might not be showing her best tennis at grass, but even so she will be a really tough opponent to Na Li who is having problems in her game in last two-three months. Her serve doesn’t work very well and the Italian will have many chances breaking her and getting at least one set, just like Halep and Zakopalova did.
